SPSSC 2024 NEWS - December 21:

Hal Johnson Has Passed Away

South Placer Senior Softball Club is saddened to share the news of the passing of Harold “Hal” Lee Johnson, a longtime member of our league, on December 3, 2024.

Hal was a kind and friendly presence on and off the field. He brought a passion for the game, a strong sense of sportsmanship, and a deep commitment to his teammates. Softball became a significant part of his retirement years, and he cherished the camaraderie and competition, traveling across the country and beyond to play in tournaments and earn championship rings.

Born in Sacramento, California, Hal grew up in Del Paso Heights and graduated from San Juan High School in 1964. He honorably served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, where he earned a Purple Heart. After his service, he joined the California Highway Patrol, serving for 29 years before his retirement in 2001.

Hal’s life was rooted in family and community. He and his wife, Linda, shared a marriage of over 50 years filled with love, laughter, and dedication. Hal was a devoted father to three children and a proud grandfather who never missed an opportunity to support his grandchildren’s activities. He was also deeply involved in his community, coaching youth soccer, Little League, and basketball in Roseville.

Hal will be remembered as a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, proud veteran, faithful friend, and trusted teammate.

A funeral service was held at St. Clare Catholic Church in Roseville on January 20, 2025, at 10:30 AM, with a reception to follow. A burial of cremains took place on January 21, 2025, at Dixon National Cemetery at 11:30 AM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or a charity of your choice.

The SPSSC extends our heartfelt condolences to Hal’s family and friends during this difficult time. He will be greatly missed.
